How can I find a legitimate at home job that does not require any money upfront? Are there companies out there that hire people to work from home?

Do not waste your time looking for internet "jobs." You will just be bombarded with all kinds of scams.
What are your qualifications and interests! What is it you want to do? What do you have a passion for? Starting thinking long term in what you want to do. There are thousands of jobs in the direct selling market today that are all legitimet. From Mary Kay to Tupperware. They all have different ways of marketing or selling. Many are free to sign up with. Some you sell, some you advertise for, some you have home parties for etc. I wasnt interested in any of them so I started my own Direct sales company and am always hiring others to work from home. Put that google or yahoo search bar to good work. Good Luck!

I have to agree with Cleopatra. I have been looking for a work from home job for about 3 years now. I still have not found a legitamate site. Someone directed me to a site one time and since then I have been getting several emails from a company that says you can make money by taking surveys. I have done hundreds of surveys and never made a dime. The problem is that although they do pay money on some surveys, most of those surveys they say I don't qualify for. The only surveys I have qualified for is for a drawing in a sweep stakes drawing. Unfortunately, I have never won anything with that either.

Melanie, Just last year I started my own home business with the Pampered Chef. The company has been around for over 27 years and is definitely a legitimate business opportunity. Starting the business was not free but it was very reasonable - $155 for the kit - and many new consultants start making a profit immediately. I chose to do things a little differently and didn't start making a profit for a few months. My Dad taught me "you have to spend money to make money" so I chose to make some investments that would help build my customer base quickly. I also had a baby right after I started so I didn't work consistently during that time. Now that I'm really focusing on the business I am making some money. Yes there are many companies that hire home workers. You just need to know where to find them. A good resource that I use frequently is http://www.workathomedesk.com which is a free site that has a directory of legitimate companies that hire home workers.
