Ebay Scam?!?
I've just recieved a message on Ebay from a user about a phone I'm selling on there.. He/she said they love the look of the phone, and will offer me £230.00 for it, when it isn't worth half of that?!?! They said if I give them my Paypal email address, they will send the money through straight away :S But I have to ship it to Africa for their cousin :S Does it sound like a scam? I'm not going to give them any information about myself, but what can they do with just my email address :S

- If they have your paypal details they could be buying stuff online through your account
- be careful its prob those pesky nigerians again dont fall for it its lies
- Repost on ebay it as a 'buy me now' price and tell them to log on and purchase it through paypal, do the cheapest shipping to Africa DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR DETAILS!!!
- Nigeria I'm guessing - A SCAM - do not even repsond to it
- it's the old Nigeria 419 scam - you place the cheque in your account, the money appears to "clear" (ie is available for use) but the cheque never fully clears because it's fake - but by that time you've gladly shipped the item away to Lagos
- Yes. It really does sound like a scam. Why would they give you more than it's worth? When I buy on ebay, I click paypal, and I get no information about the buyer. I never find out anything about my seller's Paypal email addy. Be very careful.
- Report it to spoof@ebay.com. They will check it out for you.
- Scam. Don't touch it with a bargepole and report it to eBay.
- i'd be carefull to be honest. Are they saying that they will give you extra money and you give them change? Those ones are a scam....my advice hun is that if it seems too good to be true, well then it probably is! Tell them they can wait till the auction has ended to bid what they want to pay for it! then you'll see if they are genuine or not! To be honest i didn't think you could send electronic good to africa because of everything that is going on out there at the mo, but i might be wrong! Follow your instincts! If they are hakers they can get into your paypal account, these people have ways of getting info on you! be careful x c x
- No. Don't do it. Here's the scam: You give them your PayPal details and PayPal informs you that you have been credited with £230. You send the phone to them. When PayPal attempts to take the money from their account (remember, it takes about a week) they can't as the bank account has no money in it. As a result - you get no money and they get your phone as it has already been sent. (Also, you can't claim it back from PayPal as they didn't buy it through eBay)
- Stay FAR away from this "buyer"! Its a total scam! These scammers from Africa, or Malaysia, or other international countries outside the reach of US law target auctions of high-end items (like laptop computers) and then ask to pay with paypal or a check that is far more than its worth. You cash the check thinking its valid, or paypal credits your account for the amount they say to pay but its really drawn on a bogus account, or stolen account or an account with no money in it. So when the check tries to clear, or Paypal tries to deduct the payment from their account, its declined. Meanwhile thinking that you've been paid, you ship the item to them in Africa or wherever, and then afterwards the payment bounces and not only are you left with no merchandise and no payment, but you are also stuck with the bill for the bounced payment, as well as all the fees and penalties associated with it! These scammers are always sniffing around on auctions, especially of valuable items, like computers, video game systems and other high-end items. Usually, eBay manages to track them, and ban them as soon as they make these fraudulent offers, but sometimes they fall through the cracks, and that's when potential and actual victims need to report them, and get them banned every time they show up! Report them to ebay, and they will be banned (of course, chances are that they will just pop up again with a new account, but that's why we need to spread the word about these scams, and just keep diligently reporting these crooks!) STAY FAR AWAY, REPORT THEM TO EBAY, and DON'T TOUCH THEM WITH A MILLION FOOT BARGEPOLE!!!
- Its a definite scam...dont bother. Ignore the emails and watch how they never even respond...oh and report him/her to ebay and block him/her
- dont answer them its to get ur info off u u'll have nothin in ur account in the mornin if u do
- scam dont do it
- It is a scam, don't reply to them at all! Report them to ebay right away. Not that ebay will do anything, but at least you did your part. You might not be aware of ebay's policy changes that will soon be taking effect. Please take a look at this video that explains them very well and join the 1000's of ebay buyers & sellers who will be boycotting ebay Feb 18th - 25th http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23TomS5--nQ
- as them for there paypal address and you will send them a paypal invoice but if they do pay make sure you send it signed for it will cost about £6 but at least they can't claim its not recieved all the best
