ebay scam?
Ebay scam? My husband recently listed an item on ebay and was paid for it with fake money orders. He has already sent the item and put the money orders in the bank. The bank caught them about 2 weeks after they were deposited. Does anyone know what his options are if any? He has contacted ebay but has had no response yet. yes, I too was wondering why it took the bank so long to figure out they were fake!!

- I'm not sure if they can catch the people, but you should pursue that. At least now you know, only use paypal.
- go see the cops, that is fraud
- ebay should help you eventually (they are very slow), but since you know the person's name and address (from mailing the item) you can also contact the police. You should also ask your bank for advice.
- I am surprised your bank took 2 weeks? I would ask then your rights there. Ebay will try and contact the buyer but if they sent fake money orders they are probably long gone. You may have learned a lesson unfortunatly.
- He has no options..it was his responsibility to ensure the payments were good. It's a common scam and loads of people get caught in it....the other scam is a check that exceeds the amount of the purchase and again you get to hold the bag. The best bet is to file a police report so there is a record and someone somewhere will investigate...most likely the FBI since it falls into wire fraud laws. Should use paypal or accept credit cards and never release an item untill it's cleared....and make sure you note that on the payment options notes.
- Money orders often take 2 weeks to clear, even longer if it is from a foreign company. Call the police.
- I am very sorry you were a victim of fraud. eBay is becoming prone to more and more fraud such as the money order issue you experienced. Unfortunately there are a lot of risks associated with selling on eBay. You should check out an article on Jay Brokers' website-- top 10 reasons not to sell on eBay...
- hi i used to sell on ebay and had the same problem and ebay never replied to any of the 23 emails i sent them. but i'm afraid because the item has been sent there is not much you can do now if you still have the customers address you could try contacting the police but im afraid ebay do not care. i now use a site called jtbids.com
