Is this an ebay scam? Must be????

I found this machine for sale on ebay and the value of the machine is way way under priced so something must be up. I hate when people scam, however I want to know if any of you have run across such a scam and what you suggest I do to help bust this guy. Let me know what you think. Thanks

  1. The guy won't be able to meet in person now matter how much you try. He won't accept secured forms of payment, and he will probably be out of the country. The deal is almost always too good to be true. If you want to know for sure, ask the guy if he will accept paypal. He will have an excuse, the popular one is "paypal fees are too high" if you offer to pay them too, he will decline. There are thousands of these on ebay at any given moment. You can report it to ebay, you will get a form letter at first, a few days later someone will get around to deleting the posting, and nothing else will be done. MANY times the listing is placed from a hacked account, usually with enough feedbacks to make you feel safe.
  2. Maybe thats just their starting price for it? What is the sellers rating like? If theyre new or they have bad ratings, its probably a scam, but if theyre well established, then who knows, maybe not. I bought a pink motorola wireless earpiece on ebay for 80 dollars, with people who had 200+ positive feedback, and no bad ratings. I emailed them to ask if it was an OEM ear piece (original equipment from motorola) and they assured me, that it was indeed, an authentic motorola, so I bought it. It was super fuzzy and low quality, and I later found out, motorola doesnt make that particular ear piece in pink. I got taken for 80 bucks. But I paid by money order so there wasnt anything I could do about it. (scammers like you to pay in money orders, that way the transaction can't be traced and its your word against theirs.) I dont know how you bust someone like that, other than write ebay and tell them that you think something is up
  3. Many times Items on ebay may be scans, but they may not be. After reading the description of the item carefully, there is not much you can do, I know that JKRowling has a lawsuit against ebay due to fraudulent Harry Potter books and autographs being sold on ebay.
  4. It may not be a scam. Some people (especially "newbies") are clueless as to the dollar value of their merchandise. Could be just the starting bid to entice more bidders. Is there presently a bidding war going on for the item or is it up for Buy It Now? Look at their Feedback score and comments. Use PayPal to pay for the item if you choose to go ahead with the transaction. I think there may be some sort of insurance thru PayPal. http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/ua/USUA-outside#pbp-policy
  5. I have been scammed by an e-bay seller.I tried to purchase an I-book computer. The seller got paid and then didn't send the computer. After weeks of negotiating with pay pal I was offered $125 refund on a purchase price of $650. Needless to say that was not satisfactory. I did get in touch with my credit card company and finally got a refund for the remainder but the end result was total dissatisfaction for me and I will never use e-bay again. I am sure most transactions are done honestly and to the mutual benefit of both parties but once burned twice shy.
  6. andy, send me the item#. i'll check it out for you.
  7. ebay itself is not a scam but a way of trading. However, there are plenty of scammers using ebay
