eBay sellers reporting some scams being made by bidders from Nigeria, can some one explain how is that?
just out of curiosity because eBay payments suppose be protected by Paypal.

- well, there's a problem on eBay where people woud put in an extreme high bid, and then not pay, maybe it's to do with something like that.
- One of the problems with countries like Nigeria is that it is difficult to track your delivery, so it is open to abuse, claiming that goods have not arrived.
- paypal isnt safe, ebay isnt safe. both are owned by the same company but as the companies are based in switzerland that right away tells me somethings not right. as far as i'm aware ebay and paypal dont have to accept liability for fraud when 99 percent of it is their fault.
- always something right dodgy coming out of good old Nigeria - eh wot!
- A bidder might ask you if it's ok not to use Paypal. If you agree they will send you a cheque to pay for whatever it is you're selling. You post them the goods and deposit the cheque. A few weeks later your bank tells you its worthless. Yours goods have been delivered to an accommodation address somewhere in the backwoods of Nigeria. You'll never see them again, or your money. Recently a woman from Northern Ireland was conned out of an engagement ring worth £2000($4000) by people using this method.
- This has been going on in ebay for a long time. You sell an item [usually a mobile phone/camera] Nigerian scammer wins bid with high figure [they set up a hotmail/yahoo account just to scam] You get loads of emails claiming their husband/daughter/goat is in another country and some very convincing Western Union emails [you can also click a link and get even more problems] They ask you to send off the phone whilst the money is clearing Western Union Believe it or not, many people actually send off their items to Nigerian [often an address in Laos, next to the bus stop, Dirt Track Road] and lose their money. They don't use paypal so are not protected. It almost happened to me.

- nigera: they might send you a money order that you think is good- but, its not- you won't know until 2 months later. or- they might send you to much in a money order, and ask you to wire or send the extra back- don't fall for it. Never ship to Nigera - or any countries around it!! i ONLY ship to USA , and Canada personally!!
