  1. Yes paypal offers better buyer protection than credit cards.
  2. I tend to choose reputable sellers with very high positive feedback. I personally havent run in to a single problem on ebay after trading for a number of years. However, there is always a small risk, so choosing reputable sellers usually makes things better.
  3. i use ebay a lot and never had any trouble , just check the seller by the feedback he gets, and use paypal then if anything does go wrong you can claim your money back
  4. You have to open a claim/dispute with paypal first. Then they will try to resolve the dispute with you and the seller. All claims must be filed within 45 days of the transaction or the claim will be denied. If there is buyer protection on the auction and they resolve in your favor then they will credit your paypal account with the transaction funds. There are different tiers of buyer protection, basic tier covers $200.00 or less, and then other tiers go up from there... check the auction listing to see if the seller has buyer protection through Paypal listed. Also, if they have postal "insurance" listed you may want to consider purchasing it so that it doesn't get "lost in the mail." I've logged over 300 e-bay transactions, both buying and selling and I have to say that I have only had one bad transaction (paid but no communication from seller and it turned out to be a fraud e-bay account) but I filed my claim with paypal and got every bit of my money back. So...no worries mate!!! Cheers!!
  5. It's safe. Keep in mind th at if the seller offers insurance and you decline to purchase it and then the item is lost or damaged, you may have a harder time getting a refund through paypal. If the seller can provide written documentation, like his auction listing, that contains a disclaimer of responsibility for uninsured items, or a copy of the eBay invoice sent to you listing insurance as optional and you didn't buy it, you may get nothing.
